A mixed experience in Toscana

Italia is one of my favorite countries (among many, many). My first visit to the country was very brief, I was very young, and I will never forget my first impression. Of waking up in a sleeping bag on the stairs outside the railway station, the Stazione di Venezia, and see the sun rise above the marvellous city of Venice. It was an adventure. We were three friends who came by train from France during the night before, and left for Greece the next day, believe it or not, but we were on an interrail ticket and had a lot of countries to “do”.

Since then I have been to the lovely and exciting islands of Sardinia and Sicily, and I have been to the Mostra del Cinema, the film festival of Venice maybe ten times as a journalist. All of it great journeys! But this post is about a week in Tuscany a few years ago. I attended a photographic workshop. It cost a lot of money, the teacher was a really great photographer, and I learned almost nothing. Not so much to say about that, other than it is quite possible to be a master in your craft, and still be a lousy teacher. Otherwise I had a great time of course. You can hardly go to Italy withour having a great time!

Here I have just a few pictures from the small medieval town of Montepulciano, were there among other things were a great theater performance on the piazza while we were there. I have more photos from Montepulciano and Tuscany in my photo gallery. I also have other galleries, like a few of my old photos from the film festival, and some from Sicilia and Sardinia.

  3. la bella italia ! so true one can hardly go to italy without having a great time – until now i visited tuscany about seven times, often in combination with a stay in another region (Umbria, Le Marche, Piemonte, …) or city (Bologna, Ferrara, Venezia, Vicenza, Torino, …) and i’m sure many other visits will follow – i even took italian classes for one and a half year to be able to have at least small conversations with the locals – your pictures capture the italian atmosphere in a way that make me want to get up and go right now – thank you for that
