I got a lot of old negatives scanned a time back, but I hardly have time to look at them. And if I look at them I see all the dust that have to bee done. The company doing the job obviously didn’t use any dust and scratches program. The one above is badly damage by the newspaper that originaly developed my film, so much I will not even try to fix it. Luckily they were not all that bad, so I also have one that maybe don’t look too bad, when the dust is gone? The pictures are showing the actors Sean Penn and Christopher Walken, at a press conference for the movie At Close Range, at the Berlin International Film Festival, probably in 1986. Here are some more of my photos from the Berlin Film Festival.
Bente, I love these! If that is old dust, well I think it adds something extra cool …

I am not sure about the added extra, I remember from when I saw the damaded one the first time I was kind of furious. Maybe still are… Thanks for your comment, Nancy.

Utterly strange dust (?) mark. ? ? ?
If it was only one or two, I would say, it could be a static electricity’s spark though
they are somewhat repeated —– and too often.
If they were caused by a rotating shaft kind, the shaft got to have very small diameter.
And the straight line suggests, it was not caused by human handling but by a machine.
= ? ? ?

I have removed most of the dust, Yoshi. What you see now, one one of them especially, is the damage made on the negatives during development. So you are right, caused by a machine. Nothing to do about it.

Great capture, John! I really like the dust. It gives the images a wonderful texture. I love analog photography, it’s simply beautiful and special …

You know, when I started to look at my old analogs, made with more or less cheap cameras long time ago, the details looked kind of frightening on my big screen. But you are right. There is something about them. Even a lot of grains, naturally. Thanks, Anette. (Who is John?) 😉

You can buy software now that will add dust and scratches to your files to make them look old / authentic. How bizarre. Cool photos, Bente.

I love the photos. Which year was it? 1986? Only guessing because that’s the year Caravaggio came out. Is klaus_maria_brandauer-4.jpg really Klaus-Maria Brandauer? I know he’s short-sighted, but the whole face looks different. He even seems to have a bigger nose.

There are no time and date on these files, but I think it was 1986. 😉 You are remembering Caravaggio? A very interesting painter, and the film made by a very interesting director of art movies. You are right about picture nr. 4 in the gallery, not Brandauer, but his director: Sydney Pollack. Thanks for noticing, I have fixed it now.

Last summer I happens to be at same restaurant as Sean Penn was – he had lunch with Bill Clinton, and these two gentlemen looked more dusty at that time – I’m just joking about the dusty, really have positve sympathy regarding both Sean and Bill – remembering it’s about 30 years old photos so I think these photos are great… 🙂

I understand your annoyance Bente but what fantastic shots you have here! Such attitude and glamour! Am sure there are people out there playing with digital photos, layering, texturing etc etc, to get these “old, damaged original film” versions!
