June is maybe the best month for travelling in Norway, because the night is short, or doesn’t exist at all. As it is in Northern Norway, the land of the midnight sun. I have just been north, to the coast in Nordland county, were the light is magical all 24 hours a day, and the nature and the landscape is of the most scenic kind. Behind every bend of the road (and there are many) there are some new amazing mountains and fjords.
I followed The coastal route, Kystriksveien, a scenic road between Steinkjer and Bodø. It is no autostrada, but it is more or less ok to drive there, especially since there were not that much traffic. But there are narrow parts, ferries and tunnels, so it is not a distance to be in a hurry.
I stayed at a camping site, Åmnes Camping, were the view is just heaven, straight to the open sea. The beach is also wonderful, but the temperature wasn’t very inviting for a swim, which can often be the case. See some more photos in my Coastal route photo gallery.

Jeg elsker Rv 17. This road is really beautiful and a must see in Norway, I guess. It’s too long since I drive along this road. You captured it very well and I really like your photos. Nice to see that the Engabreen still exists. But what do the bricks mean? Maybe it’s art or a memorial to remember something?! Go’ helg! 😀

My first time on the northern part of this road, and I found it as interesting as Lofoten. But less people and less tourists. The bricks, you mean photo in the gallery? Yes, it is art. As much as I love the norwegian high mountains, the forests and the inland, the coast is very special. I had never been to this district befor, and I loved every minute of it. You are right Yoshi, no HDR or other effects to that picture. I was contemplating what to do with the shadows, but I kept them, it is from the night after all..

Your tourist board may want a bit brighter fore ground
for foreign tourists though, the people who knows the atmosphere, prefer it as it is. I feel that is where the
dark spirit of Nordic Myth breath.

Just like the Highlands of Scotland. The light nights are great as it gives more time for walking, cycling and travelling.
I live near Glasgow (Scotland) and the light fades just after 23.00 and it is light again Just after 04.00. I had some friends who went up the Greenland and it never got dark at all. I wish it was like this all year round as the short winter days are quite depressing.

Underbara bilder som vanligt! Har kommit samma väg, även om det är länge sedan senast. Du fångar saker så bra, och jag får sån lust att åka! Hoppas träffa mina syskon och min far med fru i augusti, kanske 🙂 På tal om att bada. När jag var barn, var jag på besök i Balsfjord, och vi hade verkligen riktigt varmt väder! Alla samlades och badade för det var ju så “varmt” i vattnet, hela 13 grader! hahahaha Här är jag mesig och badar helst inte innan vattnet är 20. Gärna mer. Är väl ingen riktig “isbjörn”.

Hei, har du virkelig badet i 13 graders vann, imponerende, men barn og isbadere gjør jo det ofte i Norge. Har prøvd 13 grader selv også, og husker ennå hvor vondt det var. Så ikke skikkelig isbjørn her heller. Beklager seint svar (det gjelder nok flere).

Ja, det är inte enda gången. Är numer ingen isbjörn… tycker om att det är minst 22 grader (som nu). En gång simmade vi (3 stk) ganska långt i det kalla vattnet. Överlevde, och har ett minne. Gör inte om det som vuxen 🙂

Makes me want to visit Norway. Oddly enough, my doctor’s office is in Norway, Maine, just about 20 km from where I live in Bridgton. In 1972, we built a home in Sweden, Maine, and we often visit friends in Denmark, Maine. All are within 20 km of each other. Other towns in Maine include Mexico, China, Poland, Peru, Naples, Paris, Belgrade, Moscow, Vienna, Rome, Madrid, Athens, Belfast, and Stockholm, all towns in Maine. But the only one that comes close to being as beautiful as your coastal Norway photos is Sweden, Maine.
