I went out to see the solar eclipse yesterday. Or, I didn’t really have a look, since I didn’t have the right protection for looking at the sun. Or for photographing the sun. But I guessed there would be millions of pictures of the sun, so I photographed the landscape instead. And on this link you can se the total solar eclipse. It wasn’t as dark as expected, but the light was different. I guess many of you experienced the eclipse, in one way or the other. It was also equinox yesterday, the day when daytime and night are of approximately equal duration. That mean summer is getting closer, and we can almost feel the warmth of the sun now (when there is no moon in front). There are a few more photos in my heaven and sky gallery.

    1. No, usually not gone before end of April, more or less. We have less of it now than normally this time of year. But on the coast they loose it earlier, or it comes and go. By the way, most of the white stuff you see here is on a lake. But it is maybe not so easy to see what is lake or not. Thank you Anneli.

  5. That was a beautiful spot to choose Bente ! The blue of the sky seems to have taken on a dark daylight intenseness as did ours as the clouds whisked across the face of the crescent sun … a really lovely photo to have of this special event !

  7. “when there is no moon in front” 🙂 beautliful pictures; and indeed, the light was different, the landscape in my vilage in Poland somewhat dimmed, like through sunglasses, felt wierd, like apocalyptic.

    1. Fascinating to hear how you experienced it in your Polish village. Dimmed, like through sunglasses, I can agree on that. I heard friends describe it as apocalyptic even if they where inside. And feeling cold from it. I was feeling cold, but that was mainly because I was outside I believe. Thank you LMDM.

    1. No filter, but I should have one if I zoomed in on the sun. And even for the landscape to show what was happening with the sun. But then the landscape would end up very dark. Thank you Emilio.

  14. I think this landscapes are more interesting than direct eclipse photos because, as you say, there are millions of this ones. There was a very special light. Here, in Spain, the eclipse was partial but I could not see because I have not the eclipse glasses, like you, but the light was lower and a bit yellow. Regards, Bente !

    1. We probably had more of the eclipse, 92 %, but we probably experienced more or less tha same, as we didn’t really look at the sun. To save our eyes. Interesting to know that you saw the light changing too. Thank you Carlos.

  17. Interesting series. I’m glad you didn’t photograph the sun without the right equipment. The landscape is beautiful.

  19. It was cloudy over here —– anyway, it is not difficult to make a solar-filter =
    hold a glass over a candle frame and cover the glass with its black smoke !
    (You can do this any small piece of glass — hold a glass near the bottom of
    candle frame)
    What ever, you got very beautiful strange photo = unmistakably they are the
    photos with reduced sunlight.

    1. Hahaha, holding a glass over a candle, why didn’t I think about it. But I am sure you would have come up with the perfect solution Yoshizen, and that is no joke. Myself I am not that good with inventions, so I just did a landscape (without looking too much). Thanks for your comment, “beautifully strange” is a nice description.

      1. Candle smoked glass was not my invention = it was commonly practiced in the school when I was a kids. Though, it was stopped with a safety concern (teacher could be sued if kids burnt a finger) — so, the school has to buy filter now.

  26. Sun or moon, an eclipse is special. Even the partial ones do change the quality of the light, and you’ve captured it beautifully. Here on the Gulf coast, we were completely out of the path, but it’s lovely to see photographs like yours, and enjoy the experience vicariously.

  27. I could not see anything of the eclipse because of the many clouds. Landscape pictures are a very good alternative … espacially the ones you make. They are beautiful! It’s nice to see snow in another country then mine haha.

  28. We in the U.S. weren’t going to be able to see it this time. I think we get one in 2017. Love your landscapes, so beautiful, even if covered in snow.

    1. 2017 is not that far away. I think we have to wait 60 years or so untill the next eclipse. So I might miss that one. The snow cover will hopefully be almost gone after Easter. Then we’ll start spring too. Thank you Plant Girl.

  33. Beautiful! We tried to watch it from our school and we all waited outside for clouds to clear, but it wasn’t to be. Still, I did see the last one in 1999 in Wales!

  35. GREAt photos and beautiful landscape in your region, Bente. Sadly, we only had fog to watch in Germany, 😦 but at least I was able to travel virtually to Longyearbyen and be part of it from there … 🙂

    1. You too, so many places with clouds or fog that day. I think the virtuel experiences are the best, except for seeing the light changing of course. For details we need equipment, but these days we can see what others have recorded. Thank you, tusen takk Dina.

  36. How fortunate that you were able to see the eclipse. It wasn’t visible in the US, so I’ll have to be content with looking at your lovely photos. Do you need special camera equipment to photograph the eclipse?

    1. Yes, you need long lenses and filters. I wasn’t equped with that, and if I have to admit, I was also more interested in the effect of the light change of the landscape. You can hardly have both in the same picture. Thank you for the comment Jackie.

  39. At least you had a lovely clear sky. In Glasgow (Scotland) we had thick cloud and I only manages a photo on my camera phone. If it had been clear I think a better photo would have resulted.
